Invitation

We extend a warm invitation to join us for the 2020 UCT Paediatric Refresher Course, which takes place from Wednesday 12 until Friday 14 February 2020. We hope to fulfil all your expectations in this exciting programme from the divisions of Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases and Immunology.

Our invited speakers are leaders in their fields. They bring us their knowledge, reflections and updates and, in the spirit of shared expertise we invite you to be participants in the discussions, workshops and lectures.

Rheumatology presentations will include the multiple need-to-know practical clinical approaches as well as overview of hot topics in immunology and rheumatology and current management guidelines for common diseases. Speakers will include global experts as well as an excellent local faculty from allied disciplines such as orthopaedics, radiology and pain management.

Infectious Diseases (ID) is an important area of paediatrics & child health. Latest global estimates indicate that ID collectively cause more than 40% of under-5 mortality. The field of paediatric ID has experienced tremendous progress since it last featured as a discipline at the paediatric refresher course in 2014. Thus the ID contribution to the 2020 course will focus on recent and emerging developments, relevantto practicing clinicians.

The refresher course will be preceded by two day-long workshops. On Monday 10 February there is a rheumatology skills workshop, which will focus on practical skills such as clinical musculoskeletal examination, joint injections and an ultrasound workshopand is followed on Tuesday 11 February by a workshop on the clinical, diagnostic and management aspects of primary immunodeficiency diseases.
